Maybe it’s just me but looks like someone over torqued the river tool when they put on the master link. That can’t be good in the long run. Otherwise I thought it was a fairly accurate assessment of the bike I almost bought before I picked up my SV as a first bike

My best friend hopped on a new R6 when he was 18, I (19 at the time) cosigned on the loan so he could get it. His parents were thrilled!

That was over 10 years ago. Since then hes had another R6, a Hypermotard, an R1 (just sold), and a DR650. He was the best man in my wedding in July, and both of his parents were in attendance.

Cnn confirm. Had a high strung 600cc as first bike, was terrible idea.

I mean he’s right, we all know it, 4 years after I started riding I still find most bikes to command respect; 600s and 1000s scare the living crap out of me, even though I love the CBR1000 and the BMW S1000 I know I probably will never not be too afraid to own one.

I know a story of a guy that went to my local BMW dealer (which was like home back then) 18 or 19 years old with his dad no less, going to get his first road bike, an S1000RR, when the salesman was trying to convince them to get a G650GS for him, they called the Manager, a man who’s been riding for like 50 years or so, he told them that some heartless salesman would probably sell them the bike, but that he refused to participate in the serious injury or death of his son and that neither him or anyone on his dealership would sell them the RR; they left pretty mad.

People just don’t get the fact that it doesn’t matter if you ride dirt bikes, it doesn’t matter if you drive fast cars, first road bike is like learning from scratch, at least for a little while.

(I’m extra touchy because I went down recently...)

Money and sense often exist in inverse proportions, especially as the amount of money increases.

As a rider of 5 years (who was actually talked down from buying this exact bike as his first) this video is bang on. Ended up with a first gen sv650 instead. I firmly believe that decision to listen to wisdom has allowed me to be life long rider that can handle any bike now. Like mister regular said, below the threshold, almost any inline 4 super sport is sedate. However, new riders are woefully under skilled for the bikes limits, which is just a wrist twist away in the middle of a corner, or on the highway when around cars.

And yes, when you cross that threshold it’s like hitting max boost in a civic with a single massive turbo and a good tune.

My first and only bike has been a 2001 R6. Had never riden a bike before, learned on the R6 then took the MSF course. 6 years and 2 track days later and still going good. I love that bike, and it is everything Regular says it is. Super docile at low revs, and a screamer up top. Probably should have started on something smaller, but oh well. It really depends on the person, I was 23 so at least a little more responsible. Wouldn’t change it for the world.

Surprised you were able to screen cap that moment and catch it in the first place!

I think the amount of bros in Superbikes (and in fact Sports and Superbike sales) can really confirm you don’t need money to be stupid.

True, but when daddy is buying their entitled devilspawn a 15K+ toy, the bro might not be the only problem.
